Webinar Details
Date: Monday, 24 August 2026.
Time: 7–8.30 p.m.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Location: Live online via Zoom.
This practical webinar will support mainstream class teachers in understanding and applying the 2026 Guidance on Preparation for Learning, Teaching and Assessment Updated Guidance for all Primary and Special Schools.
The webinar will explain what the updated guidance means for teachers’ day-to-day preparation, with a particular focus on long- and short-term recorded preparation. It will also consider how recorded preparation can remain manageable, meaningful and responsive while schools gradually enact the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum.
Target Audience
Primary school mainstream class teachers in Irish primary schools (Infants – 6th Class), as well as school leaders who want to ensure their school is following the most up to date guidance regarding recorded preparation. The webinar will also include information on recorded preparation for teachers completing Droichead and also for multi-grade teaching.
Topics Covered
The webinar will explore:
- What is meant by preparation for learning, teaching and assessment.
- Invisible, visible and recorded preparation and the relationship between them.
- The principal additions and changes contained in the updated 2026 guidance.
- The relationship between individual teacher preparation, whole-school curriculum plans and agreed whole-school approaches.
- What is required in long-term recorded preparation.
- What is required in short-term recorded preparation.
- How preparation may be adapted during the phased enactment of the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum.
- The Cuntas Míosúil.
- The place of Classroom Support Plans within the broader understanding of recorded preparation.
- Practical resources, web-based tools and other supports that may assist teachers with recorded preparation.
Resource Pack
A supporting resource pack is included with your booking and is available for download immediately upon purchase. It contains editable templates and completed examples for both long- and short-term recorded preparation:
Long-Term Recorded Preparation
- Two alternative editable long-term recorded preparation templates (in Google Docs and Microsoft Word formats).
- A completed Senior Infants Social and Environmental Education plan using the first template (in PDF format).
- A completed Senior Infants Social and Environmental Education plan using the second template (in PDF format).
Both completed examples cover the same class level and curriculum area. This allows teachers to compare two different ways of organising and presenting the same long-term preparation and to select the approach that best suits their needs.
Short-Term Recorded Preparation
- Three alternative editable short-term recorded preparation templates (in Google Docs and Microsoft Word formats).
- Three completed examples (Junior Infants, Second Class, Fifth Class), with one example provided for each template.
The alternative versions reflect the different combinations of curriculum specifications that schools may be using during the phased enactment of the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum. Teachers can select the version that corresponds most closely with the curriculum areas being enacted in their own school. The completed examples demonstrate how each version of the template may be used in practice.
