Will these plans work with a publisher programme e.g., Starlight, Jolly Phonics, Exercise Your English, Abair Liom, Bua na Cainte, Bun go Barr etc.?
These Plans are in fully editable format so that you can tailor them to your needs and the needs of your class. The plans contain suggested themes, poems, picture books, phonics etc. which have been carefully chosen to be suitable for children at infant level. However, if you are following a particular English/ Gaeilge scheme from one of the publishers, you may of course simply delete this content and insert the content from the publisherâs scheme instead (or use it to supplement the publisherâs scheme). Many publishers also provide a table with the content from their scheme in Microsoft Word format as part of their website, and you can include a copy of this table as part of your long term plan.
What sections are included in these plans?
The plans contain all sections suggested by the NCCA in their planning framework including aims, learning outcomes for each strand, methodologies, differentiation, assessment, as well as linkage and integration. These sections are the same for Junior Infants, Senior Infants, and Multi-Class Infants. In addition to the above sections, there is a detailed content section for each class level which gives suggested poems, rhymes, stories, phonics (English), and poems, songs, stories, vocab (Gaeilge), that can be covered each month. This content is not based on a particular scheme, but content that I have found work well with infants. The suggested content is different for JI and SI, and a Multi-Class Infants can use it as a year 1/ year 2 option.
What about the Guidance on Preparation for Teaching and Learning?
In 2021 new guidance on teachersâ preparation for teaching and learning was published by the Department of Education. The new guidance document allows for a lot of flexibility as to what can be included in long term recorded preparation, but specifies 4 areas that should be included. The guidance does not specify that curricular aims, methodologies, resources, integration, or differentiation must be included in the written preparation (although you can include them if you find them helpful). Therefore, 2 sample English plans, and 2 sample Gaeilge plans are included; one that includes only the 4 sections mentioned in the new guidance, and one that has all sections that would traditionally been included in a long term plan. You can decide which version suits you better to use.
What if I want to plan by term instead of for the entire year?
The plans are for a whole year, however the content is separated into Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3, so if you are doing your long-term plans by term you can just keep the section you need and delete the sections you donât each term.
