This editable September short-term recorded preparation sample has been created to support Second Class teachers in preparing clear, practical and flexible recorded preparation in line with the redeveloped Primary Curriculum and the updated 2026 Preparation for Learning, Teaching and Assessment Guidance.
The resource is provided in two formats:
✅ A monthly version of the September short-term recorded preparation.
✅ The same content split into two fortnightly short-term recorded preparation documents.
Monthly short-term recorded preparation is now permissible under the updated 2026 Guidance on Preparation. However, some teachers and schools may still prefer to prepare on a fortnightly basis. Both versions are included so that teachers can choose the format that best suits their own practice, school context and agreed whole-school approach. Teachers engaging in Droichead should check their school’s requirements and the expectations of their Professional Support Team, as weekly recorded preparation may be required in some contexts.

It is intended to show one possible way of completing short-term recorded preparation using the redeveloped Primary Curriculum and the updated guidance on preparation for learning, teaching and assessment. Teachers should edit and adapt the content to suit their own class, learners’ needs, school context, available resources, selected curriculum areas, school plan and agreed whole-school approach.
Please also note: A non-editable PDF version of the monthly short term is also included in our Short-Term Recorded Preparation Pack for Class Teachers. The content of the completed plan is the same, but in this product it is provided in editable Word and Google Docs formats for teachers who wish to use and adapt the plan themselves.
