Make team teaching recorded preparation clearer with an editable blank template and two completed examples.
This resource can be used by both class teachers and special education teachers (SETs) for the groups they teach during team teaching. The blank template is suitable for any class level and works for different areas of support, including literacy and numeracy.
What’s included?
- An editable short-term recorded preparation template with integrated attendance and Reflection / Cuntas Míosúil / Assessment Notes sections.
- A completed Senior Infants literacy example.
- A completed Senior Infants numeracy example.
- Explanatory notes on using the template, coordinating preparation and recording progress.
- Microsoft Word versions and links to editable Google Docs copies.
Two completed examples
Both examples demonstrate a week of team teaching with a mixed-ability group of five Senior Infants. They illustrate how curriculum learning outcomes, weekly learning focuses, daily learning experiences and assessment can be recorded, alongside individual School Support Plan targets (where relevant for specific pupils in the class).
Both contain illustrative attendance and daily reflection entries, demonstrating how the document can record preparation and the learning that took place.
The samples are examples of the template in use. The blank template can be adapted to your own pupils, class level and teaching context.
Informed by the preparation guidance and SET Guidelines
The resource is informed by the updated 2026 Guidance on Preparation for Learning, Teaching and Assessment and the 2024 SET Guidelines. It includes the sections required for short term recorded preparation, together with space to record daily attendance, progress notes, and whether any of the children within the group have relevant School Support Plan targets,.
The two examples illustrate weekly preparation for teaching and the use of mixed-ability, or heterogeneous, groups.
Preparation and progress in one document
Prepare the weekly learning and assessment sections in advance, then print the document to record attendance and brief reflection or assessment notes by hand each day.
The completed records can also serve as the Cuntas Míosúil where they clearly capture learning progressed and the experiences supporting it, in line with the school’s agreed approach.
