Recorded Preparation Templates

Guidance regarding teachers’ preparation for teaching and learning was first published by the Department of Education in 2021 and was updated in 2026 to reflect the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum.

Since the 2021 guidance, what many teachers traditionally called “planning” has been referred to as “recorded preparation”.

Below you will find editable recorded preparation templates and sample recorded preparation documents designed to support Irish primary teachers in preparing for learning, teaching and assessment. These resources provide a clear, practical structure that can be adapted to suit your own class level, school context and personal preferences.

Our tried and tested templates mean you won’t have to spend hours creating tables, adjusting formatting or building documents from scratch in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Each template is provided in editable format so that you can adapt it to suit your own needs.
